These filters are the most widely used way of removing turbidity from water. The Pressure Sand Filter is made up of several layers of sand that vary in size and specific gravity.
These filters are designed to remove turbidity and suspended particles from feed water while requiring the least amount of pressure loss. These filters are custom-made to meet the needs of the process.
These filters are available in mild steel (MS), fibre reinforced plastic (FRP), or stainless steel construction, with face pipework and accompanying valves.
Raw water passes downward through the filter bed, where suspended particulate is trapped on the sand surface and between the sand grains immediately below the surface after being treated with a coagulant such as alum or poly electrolyte.
Over time, the loss of head increases steadily, and the flow decreases when the pressure drop across the filter becomes considerable.
The filter is subsequently removed from service, and the filter media is cleaned using flow reversal, often known as backwash.
The backwash procedure is occasionally preceded by air scouring via agitation through the under drain system to help in cleaning the bed. The scrubbing action of the air scouring agitates the sand, loosening the captured particles. The filter is now ready to be reinstalled.
SD Enviro Engineers Pressure sand filter also includes a vertical or horizontal pressure vessel with a set of frontal pipe works and valves, media of various sizes and sizes mixed and supported by layers of pebbles and gravel, a tap distribution device for uniformly distribution of the input water throughout the cross-section of the filter and an underwater drain system for filtered water collection.
